A Great Week For Wildlife & Lots of Jays!

Last Thursday, my dad and I put lots of seed out for the camera trap. There was one bird that we never usually get which loved it. That bird was the jay. One of the first photos we got was of a jay. We got loads throughout the week, and here is one we got the day I picked the camera.

There will be a lot more jays later in the post, but here is a rabbit. We don't often get rabbits so I don't keep track of them really.

At night we didn't get much, so here is all the night footage:

First, we have a badger.

We also got lots of mice.
You will have to watch till the end to see this mouse.

Now we have some of the best fox footage ever!

I think that is the closest a fox has ever got to the camera!
Here is another picture and video.

Now is a funny picture of a squirrel mid-leap.

Finally, some more jays ( with several other species ).

That is all for today. I could put so much more jay footage on but if so this post would be very long!

Taking Apart a Robin's Nest & Unseen Footage From Last Year

Two Springs ago, I had some robins nesting in a bird box I had put up in my garden. I had had it up for a few years before I was pleased something was nesting in it now. We don't often have robins on the blog so that is why I have decided to make this post. Also, read to the end to see unseen footage taken when I had the camera trap out next to a badger burrow. But before I share the pictures of the nest, here are some photos of a robin me and my dad saw while putting out the camera trap the other day.

Now, here are the photos of the robin nest.
Here is the nest inside the box:

Sadly, the first thing I noticed is some plastic inside the nest. The robin must have used it to build its  neat, little nest.

Here are some photos of me taking apart the nest:

I also found some leftover berries they had eaten and a caterpillar's exoskeleton:

Finally the unseen footage from last year's badger burrow. No, it's not badgers it is in fact 3 other species. The first is a quick glimpse of a mouses's rear end.

Next is of a bird called a great tit which is like a blue tit but with a darker head.

It isn't a great picture but you can still see the bird.
Finally is some great footage of a blue tit. I'm surprised I haven't already put this footage on as it is really good.

Here is the video:
That is all for today. Thank you for reading and say what you think in the comments!

A Hedge of Herons and Other Birds I've Seen Lately

Usually, on this blog, I put on videos of woodland animals. Today I will mostly put on some aquatic bird videos and pictures. Another change is that I have not put out a camera trap for this. All these have been recorded with a different camera.

First I shall put some brilliant heron footage on. Grey herons are one of my very favorite animals, so I was very pleased to get this footage.

The plural for a group of herons is a hedge, hence the title. There are still more herons to come, but let's have a quick look at a cormorant.

Cormorants dive to catch fish, so they are often seen with their wings spread out, trying to dry them.

The next bird I am going to show you is probably the best-looking bird ever to be on the blog. This video shows two great crested grebes building their nest.

Here are some other aquatic birds:

A Mute Swan

A Moorhen

A Coot

Greylag Goose

Mallard Duck

That final picture was an extreme close-up of a mallard duck's head.

Finally, we have more brilliant heron photos and videos.

Here is a heron roosting in a tree.

And that is all the herons for today. But not all the birds for today.

A while back when we got an owl on the camera trap I said there would be buzzards in the next post. I know it has been a while since I posted, but I did record some badgers. Sadly though the footage got deleted on the computer. Anyway here is a great video of two buzzards flying very near to each other.

Here are some photos of buzzards.

That is all the footage I have had. One final thing is that I had a question about whether badgers are prey for foxes. The answer is no, as they prefer to keep away from each other. Sometimes though when they do have a fight it is most likely the badger will win. They are much larger whereas foxes are much smaller. Thanks for the question and if anyone does have a question ask in the comments.
