I've been trying a new spot over the last two weeks near to where I saw a fox cub. Let's see what we got (also it's going to be a long post so get comfy).
The first thing we got was a fox cub, which was what I was after:
We got one again at night:
We got a lot of birds, including this songthrush:
Next up we got two fox cubs in the day!
We also got a picture of them on a log a few metres from the camera:
We got another one at night:
The next bit of footage is a new bird for the camera trap, and one I only recorded for the first time a few weeks ago. Here's a great spotted woodpecker:
I went to put some food out and a few hours later another one of the cubs appeared. You can hear the church bells in the distance if you are wondering what the noise is.
One of the cubs (I think its the largest one) kept coming back in the night. It was until this night when I thought there were only two cubs. However that was when the vixen came past, followed by 4 cubs. This means that we have had 5 foxes in one video and it makes it this post's footage of the week.
Here's two cubs eating the food I put out:
One returned every now and then throughout the night.
The next night we got a few more fox cubs:
And this one very early in the morning.
We got some really good daylight footage:
We didn't get another one until the evening:
Next up is a bird who has become familiar lately, as patch-wing manages to find the food even in a new location:
Next is my favourite bird footage of the post, another woodpecker but much better footage of it:
Some more daylight fox cub footage the next day:
We got a chaffinch:
We got patch-wing agian:
And a blackbird:
A songthrush:
Here's the final fox cub of the post:
A great tit:
Finally, we got patch-wing again:
That's all for this week's post.
I can't promise a good post next week, but I can hope as we are heading south back down to the Forest of Dean, where we have recorded muntjacs and fallow deer previously.
Click here to see what we got on the camera trap on our trip there last year. As always, our main target is wild boar (with anything else -like the deer we have had there in the past- always welcome). Mabye it will be the third time lucky?
