Birds and Baby Foxes

I've been trying a new spot over the last two weeks near to where I saw a fox cub. Let's see what we got (also it's going to be a long post so get comfy).

The first thing we got was a fox cub, which was what I was after:

We got one again at night:

We got a lot of birds, including this songthrush:

Next up we got two fox cubs in the day!

We also got a picture of them on a log a few metres from the camera:

We got another one at night:

The next bit of footage is a new bird for the camera trap, and one I only recorded for the first time a few weeks ago. Here's a great spotted woodpecker:

I went to put some food out and a few hours later another one of the cubs appeared. You can hear the church bells in the distance if you are wondering what the noise is.

One of the cubs (I think its the largest one) kept coming back in the night. It was until this night when I thought there were only two cubs. However that was when the vixen came past, followed by 4 cubs. This means that we have had 5 foxes in one video and it makes it this post's footage of the week.

Here's two cubs eating the food I put out:

One returned every now and then throughout the night.

The next night we got a few more fox cubs:

And this one very early in the morning.

We got some really good daylight footage:

We didn't get another one until the evening:

Next up is a bird who has become familiar lately, as patch-wing manages to find the food even in a new location:

Next is my favourite bird footage of the post, another woodpecker but much better footage of it:

Some more daylight fox cub footage the next day:

We got a chaffinch:

We got patch-wing agian:

And a blackbird:

A songthrush:

Here's the final fox cub of the post:

A great tit:

Finally, we got patch-wing again:

That's all for this week's post.

I can't promise a good post next week, but I can hope as we are heading south back down to the Forest of Dean, where we have recorded muntjacs and fallow deer previously. Click here to see what we got on the camera trap on our trip there last year. As always, our main target is wild boar (with anything else -like the deer we have had there in the past- always welcome). Mabye it will be the third time lucky?

Latest Sightings

Like the post with the dipper a few weeks ago, I'm going to do a quick round up of all the latest sightings, and this post is going to be very similiar as I've seen a lot of the same things.

Yorkshire

For example, when i was in Yorkshire the other week I saw another dipper.

Next up is a new bird for the blog, two pink-footed geese with a small flock of canadas:

Here's a heron:

A teal:

I was excited to see my first common sandpipers of the year:

Blog Woods

Back at home, I found the woodpecker's nest.

I saw this Lapwing the other day, and two on another occasion making it a new species to add to the total for the regular blog woods.

Last week I was on my way back from getting the camera trap when I suddenly saw one of the fox cubs we had just had on the camera trap. Sorry the photo isn't great as I took them with my phone.

Blog Woods Update

Hi everyone, I've come back to update this post as when I was collecting the camera trap the other day I saw two of the fox cubs again. They were sat there for about five minutes and I got some great footage.
Definitely some of my favourite footage of the year.

That's all for today's post. Stay tuned for some exciting new posts coming soon.

The Vixen's Cubs

The last few months have been building up to this post, and we've got some of my favourite footage of the year. Let's have a look what we got.

The first thing we got was this badger passing through on the second night.

Now, can you tell what this photo is of?

If you can't tell, watch the video and you'll find out halfway through when the vixen passes by and something is following her...

It's our first cub of the year going out on one of it's first trips away from the den with the vixen.

We got another badger on the third night:

And this deer in the morning:

The vixen came back but this time on her own :

These next shots are some of my favourite badger pictures of the year:

I'm going to quickly pause here as I tell you a short story...

It was at this point when I went to go and check on the camera trap and put some food out. I saw the baby fox on the camera and was pretty chuffed. On my way back it got even better as suddenly a little baby fox was right in front of me, staring for enough time to take some photos with my phone. I'll include these in a future post, but now I also know the general area where they must hang out. I'll explain more about this spot later...

Anyway, first to the food was a hungry badger. I can tell from the head shape that this is the same badger we got in the posts "Top Quality Badgers" and "Deer Territory".

This next clip is one of my best yet. First the vixen appears, then a cub. However, this time a second one appeared, meaning that there is two cubs and the first ever time we have had three foxes in the same video!

The vixen goes out of sight, but the cubs stay right in the middle of the camera producing this week's footage of the week.

We didn't get much until a day later when we got the vixen in the day:

Finally, we got this badger last night:

Earlier in the post, I was saying how I saw one of the cubs in the day. I've been back today and I found a burrow which I think is probably their den. There is also a clear path from the regular spot to the area where I saw the cub which has probably been made by the vixen. I've put the camera in that area so that I hopefully can record even more of the cubs and mabye even in the day. I've got a feeling that it will either work out really well, or mabye just a bit of a boring spot. We will have to find out in the next few posts...

Heat Wave

Hi everyone, in this week's post we are going to have a look what we got this past week while there has been a heat wave. Also, like I said in the last post, I'm now going to be picking my footage of the week in every camera trap post.

We got a few jays on the first day, patch-wing being one of them.

The first animal of the night was this smallish (for a badger) badger.

The vixen made several appearances throughout the night.

She returned in the morning as well.

Two days later I went to put some more food out.

 Patch-wing came back.

The vixen came back throughout the night too.

She appeared again in the evening.

One of my favourite clips of the week is this one of two squirrels chasing each other around a tree.

We got a songthrush as well. It's probably the same one as the one we've had in the last few weeks.

This post's footage of the week is this shot of the vixen coming up the hill in the evening.

She returned at night again:

A squirrel:

The vixen came back at night agin:

Finally, we got this pigeon.

That's all we got this week, so remember to leave a comment and thank's for reading!
