Jay Photo Shoot

The camera trap has been out and in today's post we find out what's been on it. I have kept putting it out since Christmas eve with rubbish results. Though this post is nowhere near as good as some others, I will still put it on. With a little temptation of fatballs, several species of birds came out. Unfortunately, we didn't get any foxes, badgers or deer. So the star of today's post is the jay. Jays are one of my favourite corvids (crows and their relatives) thanks to their 'moustache' and a spot of electric blue on their wings. We will start from when we first got something.

Sunday

On Sunday morning we got a robin sitting on the log.

We also got our first jay of the week.

Later in the day:

Monday

Jay incoming!

Jays will typically bully other birds (even ones such as tawny owls) and this one bullied this blackbird off its fatball twice. I guess it didn't want to share.

After the jay got bored everyone came down for a bite to eat. Even the squirrels did. I guess their a bit afraid of the jays too.

The other birds are blackbirds and robins.

The jay didn't come back for a while and the rest of the animals ate up more of the fatballs.

Thursday

No animals came back until Thursday. Only the jay came back one more time to see if there was any bits of fatball were left. He had a good, final stare into the camera and was off to scare some other animals off there patch.

That's all for today's post. Remember to leave a comment and thanks for reading!
