A Quiet Day at Tittesworth Resevoir

Hi everyone, in this week's post I go searching for birds at Tittesworth Resevoir. There wasn't anything on the conservation lake so I turned to the main lake to see what I could spot. It was very quiet and gloomy. Unfortunatley there didn't seem to be much on the main lake either. The island was flooded but there was a cormarant perched a beam sticking out of the water.

There were also two dead fish wich I did record, but I'm not going to show you for obvious reasons.
What I am going to show you is a flock of tufted ducks.

There were a lot of GC grebes about too.

The final bird we recorded was a bit of a strange one. It was a duck, and like the ringed teal at the end of last year it had seemingly escaped from captivity. Unlike the ringed teal, I don't think you can find these ducks native in the wild as I think it is a domestic duck. After doing a little bit of research, I am pretty sure that it is either an aylsebury or pekin duck (domestic breeds). Unless I know for sure, I am just going to refer to it as a domestic duck. It was also with two mallards.

That's all for this week's post. I am going to try and upload every week from now on, although I can't promise that I will. I should be able to upload at least once every two weeks but again, that might not always happen. Anyway, I will try and stick to a schedule of uploading on the weekends most weeks.

Remember to leave a comment and thanks for reading.

  1. Domestic ducks sound interesting. So would that be ducks bred for food but it got away?

    1. I doubt it was bred for meat but it was more likely to be a pet on a farm or otherwise. I have seen it there several times so I think it is resident. There are other places where they can be found where they seem to be living wild as well.
